So, there’d been months of us groping around in the dark trying to find light at the end of a long, trying tunnel.
There was no shortcutting it; and we’ve all had our turns. First, our littlest and her battle with severe chronic constipation, then my long-recurrence of fissuring fingers that keep breaking my skin open, then, the husband with his rare viral infection that trips his face asymmetrical.
Sometimes the hard season doesn’t seem to cease, and I flail under the uncertainty of a prolonged prognosis.
It’s the unknown that scares you — the waiting for the all-clear that terrifies you.
When you’re battling head-on with a chronic medical condition where the path to recovery isn’t straightforward, you can feel pulverised in your ability to regain control and hope-desperate for a forever-solution.
The kids keep practising their piano pieces through all the family ordeals, fingers banging out tunes into songs, and I keep praying that the seemingly dissonant chords will still make sweet melodies.
And I read:
“In this you rejoice greatly, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials, so that the genuineness of your faith, which is much more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested and purified by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.”
(1 Peter 1:6-7 AMP)
Though none of us would ever wish trials, testings, and heartaches to form a part of our story, God’s Word tells us that there is a purpose for us greater than all our griefs.
Difficulties are never an indication of God’s absence or a failure in God’s ability —they are reminders of His all-consuming love who promises to transform our troubles into triumphs, and achieve in us what only genuine faith tested through refining fire can produce.
The season of uncertainties often forces us to seek what only God’s love and comfort can bring.
Even though our season of life may be hard now, God is still at work in our lives.
He is always working to transform us powerfully, so we can bring authentic comfort to others and unblemished glory to Him.
