Christmas comes with its own magic and there is a miracle in discovering who we are in the light of who God is at Christmas.
It’s the most wonderful time of the year, but we can easily lose its wonder when we lose ourselves in its frenetic pace.
Embracing Christmas requires us to slow right down and embrace a pace of wonder.
And experiencing the most wonderful time of the year calls us to tune in from work to worship, to worship while we are doing our daily work, and slow down long enough to enjoy God in the ordinariness of our everyday.
It’s like pressing the pause button of busyness to intentionally slow down so we can find joy, purposely shifting gears so we can embrace a different rhythm to life. We’ll soon discover that we can enjoy God in everything, and in that way, make room in our hearts to savour the gift of our Saviour this Christmas.
Maybe it’s been a very hard, busy, struggling year for you. Maybe you’ve lost loved ones and felt far from those closest to you. Maybe you’ve had to farewell a dream and life has looked a lot different than what you’ve imagined. Maybe you are in a season of waiting.
But as we worship, something changes us.
We fall on our knees and acknowledge the smallness of who we are and the greatness of who God is and what it is He can do.
And in that, the great gift comes as we wait upon God.
As we prepare our hearts for the coming Christmas, let’s focus not on what we need to do or be, let’s focus on what He has done for us.
Instead of focusing on what we lack, let’s focus on how He loves.
Let’s pray:
Father God, help me to break busyness and slow down to a pace of being simply in wonder of what You have done for me this Christmas. Remind me that I can slow down to enjoy Your presence.
