So you read and ask: “How then do i know the will of God for my life?”
What is His will for that one life of yours, and your marriage and your career and your ministry…
And we hasten and we rush.
We’re impatient and we have a need to up and do, and yes, we need to know the answers right now and right away.
But when David was in the brink of urgent decisions to be made, when he faced the fiery trials of his life, he sought first and foremost to inquire of the Lord.
Romans 8:12, 26-28
“Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation—but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it…the Spirit helps us in our weakness.
We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us …And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.”
When storms are raging rapid in the face of our lives, we too need the humility to seek the Lord, and wait.
Waiting is hard. We want movements today, we want results yesterday. But motions aren’t to be confused with momentum, and productivity is firstly rooted in a Person.
Is busyness really the facade that we feel we must wear to hide inner our hollowness, mask our inside shallowness and fake our internal hurts and pains?
M’am & Sir, it is only in waiting upon God that we learn to truly know.
Waiting – that’s where we still to trust. That’s where we learn who really is in control. And in knowing that, we pause, and rest.
We can’t afford not to know His will, we can’t afford not to hear His voice, because all of life can impinge on leaning in close to hear His heartbeat for our lives.
Bernard Edinger says it right when he says, “Inside the will of God there is no failure, outside the will of God there is no success”.
Knowing His will is the best security for a future unknown.
Psalm 32:8 “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you”.
He is the rudder that keeps us anchored and calm. Seeking His will shouldn’t take second place in our lives. They are the deciding factor in the course of history, and in the course of our story, and in the outcomes of our stories.https://www.youtube.com/embed/SjA8vVtwSx8?version=3&rel=1&showsearch=0&showinfo=1&iv_load_policy=1&fs=1&hl=en&autohide=2&wmode=transparent
David Pawson had said it right – the way to understand the narratives of the Bible is theology – through the study of God Himself. To understand what His heartbeat is towards you is to study God’s character of Himself. To understand His providential ruling and the way He dealt with His people in the past and the way He’d loved them through the ages — because you’ll then get a glimpse of His fervent love towards you today.
So come close, lean in, listen.
When you’re weary with the battles of life, quieten yourself. Cultivate love before work and being ahead of doing.
Come before Him open – not seeking His hand but His heart, and give your heart to Him, gently placing your life in the palm of One who cares.
Let Him your willingness to trust, obey Him in all things, not only when it’s convenient, but especially when His way of love and denying self seems to rub salt into your wounds.
Linger in His presence and check your motives. Come neutral, not pleading for what you want but resting on His wisdom and love. Be close to Him in worship – take the ceilings in your own lives down! Know that you’re created for wholeness, so choose to stand in His strength and take your position and know there’s more life ahead.
Take an inventory of your life, see who you are, where you are and where you’re going. Let His peace come flooding in, and let your heart be loosed from a sense of infirmity to wholly praise and express love to Him.
Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight”
As you wait – He will renew your strength to soar! Journal your thoughts down – these are seeds to your maturity. Better still, journal the Word of God into your own life. Say what the Word says over yourself. In times to come, they’ll be the memorial of God’s goodness and you’ll trace His love all the way through the different season of your life.
May we seek Him today, you and I, Friends, as we discover His will for our lives more and more!
